Singing with worship has always been part of Orthodox tradition. Singing the Psalms and chanting prayers was a ritualistic practice of life in the earlier monastic communities. The worship then was
never based on a constraint of time rather they enjoyed long prayers to spend time worshipping our
Lord. Singing/Chanting was an effective medium to remember the words of worship and to pass it on the next generation. Orthodox Christians have made the Psalms as an integral part of the worship and in the Qurbana.
The Late Metropolitan, H.G Paulose Mor Gregorios, established Sruti, School of Liturgical music, to keep our worship in harmony by establishing systematic rules for choir singing. Our Choir falls under the Malankara Orthodox Choir Association which is under the supervision of the Shruti Director Rev. Fr. M.P George. When Fr. M.P George visited Houston, he instilled the harmonious tunes with the Choir and it has been followed through by each choir member through regularly scheduled practices.
This ministry has established Orthodox Study Fellowships (OSF) at many campuses, which our students gather together in Christian Fellowship to learn more about our faith, study scripture, and participate/partake in Holy Qurbana- which have truly blessed our students studying in far places, where there are no Indian Orthodox Churches, or any other Orthodox Churches.
